Lizzie + Ben’s wedding – Yarra Valley Australia Wedding Photography

Lizzie and Ben met during a dancing class when they were only in their teens. Years later they became reacquainted after Ben’s mother came up with a cunning plan that would ensure the rest took care of itself: Mother’s Day came along and Ben walked into Lizzie’s beauty salon to buy a gift voucher for his mum. After the two recognised each other the rest was history.

Lizzie wore a superbly unique gown created by Anna and Lucy Campbell. The dress flowed and hung beautifully in the humid air and had a cute sense of baby doll about it.

Each of the three bridesmaids wore stunning floor-length black halter neck Zimmerman dresses accentuated by Romanesque sandals, while the groomsmen were especially handsome in their black suits.

Lizzie and Ben had spoken their vows and the ceremony finished up just as the rain started. It was one of those days that threatened to rain from the get-go. The week leading up to Saturday had been beautiful, sunny and warm but the weather reports had warned that the weekend would bring storms and torrential rain! So when the day came it was a surprise to everyone that the rain held off until that evening.

The ceremony was beautiful, conducted by Barry Masenhelder in the grounds of Train Trak winery. The guests all congregated on the summer grass to wait patiently for the bride. Lizzie, with her dusky pink bouquet of roses, gracefully walked toward her groom.

Friends and relatives’ children were included in the wedding as flower girls and ring bearers, all beautifully dressed. The girls in 1920’style white dresses with head bands and the boys in white linen shirts.

As soon as the rain started we had to find cover to take some shots. While the guests filed into the restaurant to escape the wet, the wedding party sheltered in the cellar to have photos taken. The cellar at Train Trak offered such a beautiful wood grain background with a large open space and I was able to experiment with lighting.

They Yarra Valley is fast becoming a popular Melbourne wedding destination. Weddings are increasingly challenging the norms. The traditional church ceremony and sit-down wedding meal are being swapped for freely moving cocktail receptions with sumptuous finger foods. This makes a winery or restaurant a perfect venue to be creative and find a more relaxed, informal atmosphere.

While the rain poured outside, inside the restaurant was warm and inviting. Even though there were more than 120 people at the wedding, it was still an intimate affair. The wood fire, candles and low light created a magical mood. Lizzie and Ben had organised beautiful large bouquets of flowers to hang from wrought iron chandeliers, bringing nature and a sense of fresh vibrancy into the room.
