A few images from Lucy and Andrew’s magical wedding day at Summerfields on the Mornington Peninsula! Lots more coming very soon…
I photographed Emily and Mark’s engagement portraits at the magical Abbotsford convent in Collingwood, Melbourne. The convent is great for photos with its rich history and beautiful fresh, colourful gardens. The vibe is perfect for romance, and the atmosphere added some wonderful vintage charm to their shoot.
Sometimes the simplest touches are the most endearing, and I learnt this about the couple as they told me more about their story. They had been together for six years when Mark proposed to Emily while they were walking their puppy Buxton along Melbourne’s Yarra River. Emily said it was a beautifully warm night and an evening stroll was one of their favourite things to do as a family, which made the moment especially perfect. All Mark’s planning had gone out the window as he looked intently at Emily and whipped the ring out of his pocket, professing his love and asking her if she would be his wife. Emily didn’t get to answer right away as Buxton decided to chase another dog and chaos ensued…! But after Buxton was secured and peace once again reigned throughout the park, Emily replied that she would love to marry him. The photo shoot was really enjoyable and Emily and Mark were so relaxed. I am looking forward to being a part of their special day in December.

[...] You can view Emily and Mark’s engagement photographs HERE. [...] Larissa and Kai’s big day was finally here….! Friends and family gathered in the small German village of Breitenfelde to celebrate their marriage. Larissa looked picture perfect. Her golden hair was softly wrapped up with flowers pinned throughout. The simplicity of her Sottero and Midgley off-white gown, draped from one shoulder and flowing to her toes, perfectly matched the pearls around her neck.
It was a breathtaking moment when Larissa walked elegantly down the stairs and Kai slowly turned around to see his bride – he greeted her with a magical smile.
The 13th century gothic church was just a short distance from Mölln, near Hamburg, set in the rolling green hills of the northern German countryside. Instead of following German tradition, my friends wanted to make their wedding special and reflect who they had become as a couple. Larissa said the priest’s speech was very personal and romantic and he spoke about their love and how they met. “We also chose a quote from the Bible for our marriage which was basically saying, be pleased that your names are written into the sky,’’ she said. The couple wrote their own wedding vows, which created a very personal ceremony and touched everyone in the room. “It was pure love saying those words. Family and friends started crying and our words made the ceremony very personal, romantic and special,’’ she said.
After the ceremony, we took some photos under a canopy of beautiful tall green trees and the bridesmaids contrasted perfectly in their dusky pink Grecian style gowns. Tall and handsome in his black suit, Kai looked striking in a René Lezard suit. The groomsmen wore handsome suits of black and grey with stunning white shirts and vertical striped grey and silver ties from Best Labels Lehrte.
The reception took place at Hotel Waldhof Auf Herrenland in a rustic barn constructed from ancient timber bolsters and adorned with white linen, and cream and purple lanterns. We all enjoyed beautiful food and, after the cake was cut and the guests consumed their lovely cupcakes, there was dancing and the party really started! I am so honoured that my good friends Larissa and Kai asked me to photograph their wedding. The day was perfect and celebrated two fantastic people starting their lives together. Gorgeous pictures and I love how you catch every detail that make a wedding special. great work Kirrallee Caitlin and Allan are busy planning their wedding, and recently we did an photo shoot together to celebrate and commemorate their engagement. It was actually on the ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff, while enjoying a mini-break to celebrate their second anniversary, that Allan got down on bended knee and asked Caitlin that all important question! Caitlin with her beautiful almond-shaped blue eyes felt surprised and overwhelmed by the romance of the moment and the charmingly traditional way Allan proposed. She loved that he had chosen the ring by himself and adored his sense of chivalry. I could see how in love the two of them are, and completely happy in their mutual admiration for each other. What I think is wonderful about these two is the fact that two seemingly quite different people can share the same soul, heart and morals, and complement each other perfectly. Caitlin and Allan had met years earlier at a friends house-warming but didn’t actually bond until later when they met in a Melbourne bar playing pool. Coincidentally both their phones had run out of battery so the swapped numbers the old fashioned way and exchanged scraps of paper instead.
First dates are the sometimes make or break and Caitlin’s interest was guaranteed when they both realised they were into metal rock bands. Caitlin told me that Allan had asked what her favourite band was. She replied Nine Inch Nails and his favourite was Tool, so it was Love at first mosh! It was their passion for music and the ability to make each other laugh that brought the two together. Caitlin said she admires Allan’s logical and levelheaded nature and immense patience. For Allan it is Caitlin’s bright blues eyes, her choice in music, the fact she is multi-talented and can play at least two musical instruments, and her ability to make him laugh.
We photographed Allan and Caitlin in some fantastic locations around Kensington in Melbourne’s inner west, an area that retains some interesting historical industrial architechture. It made a great backdrop to photographs of a happy couple!
It was Christmas Eve, 2007. The snow settled like a cosy blanket over the city of Seattle, in the north-western United States, where my good friends Kai and Larissa were spending their first Christmas apart from their families. In their apartment, Kai had snuggly tucked something very special into a stocking, hanging on the mantle-piece… As Larissa reached in, she discovered a beautiful engagement ring, and Kai whispered a question to which Larissa answered without a thought…. Yes! Of course she would marry him!! Kai was a good friend of Larissa’s brother, Christoph, and they had known each other since the 90’s. Both had family connections to a gliding club – something that would prove to be a shared passion. Romance blossomed when Larissa returned to Germany after her exchange year to Australia and the two found they grew to be more than just friends. They shared a love of gliding, dancing and music, and ended up spending more and more time together.
Kai knew Larissa was the one who made him laugh and had encouraged and supported him to be best person he could be. She is the love of his life. They have been through so much together, supported each other during the pressure of study and exams – some of which they feel they only made it through because of each other.
What really matters is the laughter and joy they bring to each other, and the simple fact that both just know how special they are to the other. Larissa and Kai are a wonderful couple and are beautiful friends of mine. I really loved visiting them in Hamburg for their wedding, which took place recently in the hazy green of a German summer. Stay tuned for the official wedding photos on a forthcoming blog!
